SUMMER SERVICE HOURS: Students may start completing the Christian Service requirement for the 2024-2025 school year. Students should make a plan now for the service work they plan to do over the next school year. Start by selecting a service area in which the student might be interested. Then contact an organization from the school website to arrange times and dates for the service work.

SUMMER OFFICE HOURS: Summer Hours for SMHS Administration Office are in effect until July 17. During that time, the Office will be open Monday-Thursday, 7:30 AM - 12:30 PM. The office will be closed Thursday, July 4.
FIRST DAYS OF SCHOOL: Orientation days will be held for all students in all grades. Students will report to the Multipurpose Building. The days and times for each grade are listed below. Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors will pick up their computers and learn technology updates. Students must have their Flak Jacket and their Technology Signature Page to pick up their computer. Freshmen will follow an abbreviated class schedule and attend orientation sessions before joining their parents in the Multipurpose Building for our traditional Bible ceremony. Parents are invited to the Multipurpose Building at 6:00 PM for a short meeting followed by the Bible ceremony.
Students must be in proper uniform, and no lunch will be served. Students are encouraged to bring a clear water bottle.

The first full day of classes for all students is Friday, August 9. The first bell rings at 7:10 AM with dismissal at 2:30 PM. The St. Michael Shuttle Bus and the EBR Buses will run beginning on August 9.
CALENDAR FOR 2024-2025: This is the calendar for the 2024-2025 school year. It is important that students be present each day of school in order to get the most out of the education being offered. Please plan your vacations, family trips, and college visits accordingly.

REQUIRED SUMMER READING: The required summer reading list for all students is available on the St. Michael website under Quick Links. Students are to read any two books from their grade level list. Please note that Honors and AP students may have additional requirements at the bottom of the page. Check out book reviews and summaries on www.barnesandnoble.com and www.commonsensemedia.org. Most titles are available for free download through our OverDrive eBook link. OverDrive is compatible with Nook, Kindle, laptop tablets, home computers, Ipads and smart phones. Please see the Library’s Moodle page for grade level powerpoints.
STUDENT SCHEDULES: Student schedules for the 2024-2025 school year will be posted on July 15. The courses that were requested are considered a commitment on the part of the parents/guardians and the students to take the classes they asked the school to provide for the entire 2024-2025 school year. Please remember that the master schedule is built based upon requests made by the parents/guardians and students. For this reason, changes will be made only under rare and special circumstances with the final approval of the administration.
SCHOOL COUNSELORS: The SMHS School Counseling Department supports the mission of the school by assisting students to facilitate growth in the areas of spiritual, personal, social, academic and career concerns. If a student needs assistance in any of these areas, the student should see his or her grade level counselor.

Personal Development
SENIOR PICTURES: Barclell Studio will take all senior yearbook pictures. We encourage you to have senior pictures taken during the summer months; however, the deadline for your student's senior yearbook picture is October 25. Barclell Studio has the option to schedule senior yearbook sessions on its website www.BarclellStudio.com at Book a Session. Or you may call their office at (225) 791-1951. Please remember that all grooming must be to St. Michael standards for the yearbook picture. If you take your picture, and your grooming is not to St. Michael standards, you will have to re-take your picture and pay an additional sitting fee. If you have any questions about those standards, please see the handbook, which is posted online. Barclell Studio is located at 251 Tate Road in Denham Springs.
SENIOR PAINTED PARKING SPOTS: Seniors must complete and submit the needed painted parking spot information by Friday, July 5. Any questions, please send an email to Mrs. Jackie Moseley at jmoseley@smhsbr.org
2024 BACK TO SCHOOL DANCE: Our Back to School Dance will be Friday, August 30. Tickets will be sold online. More information will be found in the August newsletter.
2024-25 SCHOOL YEARBOOK: Now is the time to order your 2024-2025 St. Michael Yearbook to get the lowest prices of the year. The 2024-2025 yearbook goes on sale today. No special code is needed—the sale price of $65.00 will be listed in the system. To preorder this year’s book, go to https://www.yearbookordercenter.com/job/891. The special price of $65.00 is good until September 15. Last year’s 2023-24 yearbook will be distributed in October, and we will have a few extra copies to sell when the books come in. Please email kcalhoun@smhsbr.org to get on the waiting list for last year’s book. Senior Parents mark your calendars—Senior Yearbook Ads will go on sale December 1. The deadline to purchase a Senior Yearbook Ad will be in February, for those who would like to include senior portraits in their ads.

2024 Warrior Awards Dinner
Congratulations to our honorees who were presented at the 2024 Warrior Awards Dinner at Ruffino’s on May 22. We are so thankful for their commitment and service to SMHS.
John Roberts Jr.-Wall of Honor Inductee
During his time as a Warrior student-athlete, John played multiple sports and received numerous accolades both in and out of the classroom. His success carried over to the next level as a walk-on football player at Southeastern Louisiana University. After college, John entered the finance world and co-founded Attracct Solutions which serves as an outsourced accounting department for small business owners. John currently resides in Baton Rouge with his wife and three daughters.
Kirk Edwards-Alumni of the Year
As founder of MKE Architects, Kirk has been one of the driving forces behind the Warrior Stadium project. Before a career in architecture, he was in the Louisiana Army National Guard for six years before completing his enlistment as a sergeant. Currently, Kirk is the proud scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 888 and is also actively involved in other ministries at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Kirk currently resides in Baton Rouge with his wife and two children.
Kevin ‘Doc’ Andry-Warrior Sword Award
With nearly 40 years of teaching music in Diocesan high schools, Dr. Kevin Andry has been an instrumental part of many lives. His infectious personality is emulated by both students and his colleagues. Coming from a family of musicians, the arts have always been in Doc’s life. He received a Bachelor of Music from Loyola University, followed by a Master’s Degree in Music Performance and a Ph. D from LSU. His is a recipient of the NCEA Secondary Schools Department Educational Excellence Award, the Catholic Diocese of Baton Rouge Distinguished Educator Award, and has been recognized as an outstanding educator by the Baton Rouge Symphony Organization. Recently, he was inducted into the Louisiana Association of Jazz Educators’ Hall of Fame.

ST. MICHAEL HOME AND SCHOOL ASSOCIATION

The Home and School is excited to meet all new parents at the upcoming New Parent Boot Camp on July 24. This event is just for parents. The evening will consist of meeting many department heads and administrators who will orient you to St. Michael. Registration begins at 5:15 PM with the first session beginning at 5:30 PM. The Warrior Club had a successful 2023-2024 school year. Thanks to our amazing Warrior Families, we had an increase in memberships, a successful dance for our parents, a profitable football program fundraiser, a highly attended Senior Athlete BBQ, and a year of prosperous Warrior merchandise sales. We obtained approval to proceed with a skeet shoot fundraiser in 2024 -2025. Because of our successful year, the Warrior Club was able to assist with many improvements that will benefit our athletes and spirit team programs. With the incoming arrival of a new principal and new president, it is sure to be a busy productive year for all.
