CHRISTIAN SERVICE: Congratulations to the 167 students who earned Christian Service Awards for going beyond their required hours for the 2023-2024 school year. 76 students earned the Bronze Award for completing 10 hours above their requirement, for a total of 2,373 hours served. 56 students earned the Silver Award for completing 25 hours above their requirement, for a total of 2,229 hours served. 35 students earned the Gold Award for completing 50 hours above their requirement, for a total of 3,379 hours served. What a testament of our students living out the school's mission by serving others!
Students may now start completing the Christian Service requirement for next year. Don’t wait! What is most important is that students make a plan now for the service work they plan to do over the next year. Start by selecting a service area in which the student might be interested. Then contact an organization from the school website to arrange dates and times for the service work. Contact the school service coordinator, Mrs. Haley Wetzel, with any questions or concerns.
- THE SAINT TERESA OF CALCUTTA CHRISTIAN SERVICE AWARD: The 2023-2024 Saint Teresa of Calcutta Christian Service Award honors two seniors who have demonstrated Christ-like servant leadership at the highest level. They live the charism Ministerium and are models of what a young person can achieve if he or she is willing to give, as St. Teresa says, “until it hurts,” not always doing great things, but always doing small things with great love. The awardees are chosen by the members of the Theology Department who work with the students’ service hours. This year’s recipients are Victoria Provost and Lucas Miller.
- THE MOTHER SETON AWARD: The 2023-24 Mother Seton Award winner for St. Michael High School is Mrs. Alicia Quebedeaux. In 1986 the Diocesan Home and School Association established the Mother Seton Award to honor those individuals who have shared their gifts through exemplary service to school. Alicia currently serves as treasurer for our Home and School Association and plays an integral role with many of the organization's events. Next year she will serve as our Home and School president. We are so blessed to have her share her talents with all of us.
SENIOR/MOTHER MASS: As our seniors move towards graduation, they will celebrate the first of several milestone events with our annual Senior/Mother Mass on Friday, May 3 in the Main Gymnasium. All students must wear their dress uniform, and mothers will gather with their senior(s) in the Cafeteria at 8:30 AM for procession. This all school Mass will be followed by a special brunch celebration for seniors and their mothers in the Gym. After the brunch, seniors will be dismissed for the day.
MOTHER/SON BRUNCH: St. Michael mothers and sons are invited to attend a special brunch on Saturday, May 11 beginning at 10:00 AM in the St. Sebastian Multipurpose Building. The morning will include a delicious brunch, prayer, and reflection on mother and son relationships. Grandmothers are also welcome. The cost is $20 per person. You may reserve your spot at
https://forms.diamondmindinc.com/smhsbr/mothersonbrunch
SENIOR SERVICE PROJECT: As the seniors are presenting their Senior Service Projects, juniors should begin to prepare for this important milestone. Juniors will be receiving a copy of the project criteria, and several seniors will be presenting their projects in the junior Theology classes so that the juniors can visualize how their projects should turn out. Parents, please visit with your junior about their plans for next year’s Senior Project.

PRESENTATION OF THE SENIOR CLASS OF 2025: The Presentation of the SMHS Class of 2025 will be held Friday, May 10 in the St. Sebastian Multipurpose Building at 6:30 PM. All juniors must attend. In addition, all juniors must attend a mandatory practice on Thursday, May 9 from 2:35-3:45 PM. Students must be excused by Mr. Kegan Keller if they are unable to attend either event.
EARLY DISMISSAL/OFFICE CLOSED: In order for faculty and staff to attend the graduation ceremony, the front office will close at 12 Noon and students will be dismissed at 12 Noon on Friday, May 17. EBR Parish buses and the SMHS shuttle bus will run at that time.
FINAL EXAMS: Semester exams count as 20% of a student’s semester grade. Exam scores can have a significant impact on a semester average. With this knowledge in hand, please encourage your student to be well prepared.
IF A STUDENT FAILS A CLASS: If a student fails a class, whether for a semester or the entire year, it is required that the student attend summer school the summer immediately following the failure. Summer school attendance is mandatory if the course is required for graduation from St. Michael. For specific details regarding SMHS graduation requirements, please refer to page 26 of the handbook. Teachers will be contacting parents/guardians of students who must attend summer school by May 24.
ACT & SAT DATES: The next ACT dates are Saturday, June 8 and Saturday, July 7. Please visit www.act.org to register. The next SAT dates are Saturday, May 4and Saturday, June 1. Please visit www.collegeboard.org/sat to register.
FINAL COLLEGE ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS: Seniors should be aware of all final college admissions requirements. This could include mailing an ACT or SAT score, immunization record (vaccinations), paying a fee bill, or applying for housing. Not doing so could potentially prevent a final admissions decision from being made or prevent a student from scheduling classes or attending orientation. Please see the admissions criteria per your intended college or university for more information.
DUAL ENROLLMENT & AP CREDIT: If a student has received Dual Enrollment credit from LSU and will be attending LSU, they do not need to do anything. If they are attending any other college besides LSU, they will need to request a transcript from LSU to be sent to the intended college or university the student will attend. If a student has received AP credit, The College Board will send a score report to the colleges or universities that the student indicated on his/her answer sheet. If a student wishes to send additional score reports, he/she may do so through an online account with The College Board.
SUBMITTING A FINAL HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT: When a senior graduates, public universities like LSU & SELU will have access to student transcripts via the Student Transcript System (STS) through the Louisiana Department of Education beginning June 15. Because of this electronic transfer, St. Michael does not need to mail a transcript to any public university. However, private institutions such as Loyola University and Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady, or out-of-state institutions, will need an official copy of your student’s transcript mailed from St. Michael. Please make the request via the Permission to Release Records Form found on your student’s Moodle account, and include the exact mailing address of where it needs to be sent. We will not accept transcript requests over the phone or via email. Always check with the college or university admissions office or log-in online through a student account to check on the receipt of a transcript or any other document needed for admissions, such as test scores. Your student can do this form before the end of the school year and turn it in to Mrs. Rachel Cart in guidance.

A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL:
As we enter our final month of the 2023-2024 school year, we pledge to do our best right up until the last day. Teachers and students are completing important final lessons. We ask that parents hold their students accountable for attendance, daily work in completing assignment, and studying for tests and quizzes. Work done now can help alleviate stress and anxiety for both students and parents.
The second week of May is Teacher Appreciation Week. Please take a minute to send a quick email or note to a St. Michael teacher or counselor or staff member who has helped your student be successful this year. We know our teachers are appreciated, but it is so rewarding when a student or parent recognizes and acknowledges them.
Towards the end of each school year, students and teachers alike take stock of their own growth over the last 10 months. The successes are met with gratitude, the failures have been an opportunity for learning, and the fond memories will always be a part of our shared Warrior experience. What a blessing St. Michael the Archangel High School is for all our students, faculty and staff, families, alumni, and many other stakeholders! We certainly are fortunate to be a part of a school that focuses on faith development, academic achievement, and personal growth.
I want to thank every St. Michael family for your support during my time here at St. Michael. I have been so blessed these past 19 years to have been a part of this wonderful school. Retirement will be a big change for me, but I leave the school in the hands of the Holy Spirit and the best educators in the state. Please continue to pray for our students, our faculty, and our families. Know that you remain in my prayers.
God Bless,
Ellen B. Lee

Dear Warrior Fans,
This has been my 8th year of involvement in the St. Michael Warrior Club and my third and final year serving as President. During this time, I have witnessed a tremendous growth in our school spirit. I am so proud of what the Warrior Club established before me, what we have accomplished during my involvement, and of what the future will bring. I thank the many faculty members, coaches, parents, students, and board members who support the Warrior Club and all that we do. I especially thank Sandra Bauder, who has served as Treasurer with me for 3 years. Her work frequently happens behind the scenes and is invaluable.
Thank you, Michelle Harper, for your time as Secretary, and thank you to our Members at Large – Maria Quiroga and Lori Beckman, Christi Blair who managed our Social Media accounts and helped with Football Programs, Lizette Leader who assisted with Membership Communications, and our Dance Chairs – Jennifer Taffaro and Heidi Diecedue. A huge shout out to Kellie Tate who helps operate the Warrior Club Store and is our primary vendor.
Let’s congratulate Amanda Rabalais, our current Vice President, and your future Warrior Club President. Thank you, Amanda, for continuing your service. We also congratulate our new board members, Lalie Edgecombe (Vice President), Lisa Johnson (Treasurer), and Tiffany Brouillette (Secretary). The new Member at Large is Dena Sutton. The Warrior Club is in excellent hands.
Go Warriors!
