The next era in the history of St. Michael the Archangel High School will begin on July 1st with a fresh look in administration.  For the past several months, the Diocesan Catholic Schools Office along with Partners in Mission School Leadership Search Solutions and a group of dedicated stakeholders, have worked together in their quest to recruit a new president and principal for the school.  Superintendent, Dr. Patricia Davis, is pleased with the outcome, “With the unanimous support of the St. Michael High School search committee, as well as the Most Reverend Bishop Michael Duca and the Reverend Jamin David, I am thrilled to announce the appointment of Mr. Ryan Empson as the new president of SMHS.  We are confident Ryan will lead us into a new chapter of excellence, continuing our tradition of providing outstanding faith and academics to the students of St. Michael.”  As the president Mr. Empson will focus on the vision and comprehensive advancement of the school, while newly appointed Principal Jared Cavalier will concentrate on the day-to-day management of students and faculty.

Mr. Empson received a bachelor’s degree in secondary social studies from Louisiana State University and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Southeastern Louisiana University.  Mr. Empson brings over 20 years of teaching and coaching experience from throughout the Baton Rouge region. Mr. Cavalier resides in Prairieville with his wife and four children.

Under new leadership, the Warrior community eagerly awaits a bright future for the school. St. Michael is a Catholic, co-educational institution, serving a comprehensive, college preparatory education for students in grades 9-12. With an enthusiastic, experienced faculty and a rich and challenging curriculum, St. Michael provides the ideal environment for students to achieve their full potential. Students are encouraged to follow the teachings of the Gospel by seeking the truth, living the faith, and serving like Christ.

As St. Michael Warriors, students are called to Seek the Truth, Live the Faith, and Serve like Christ. Each year, there are students who go above and beyond the call to serve like Christ in both our school and our local community. We would like to recognize those students who have responded to this call to by completing above the minimum requirement of service hours for the 2022-2023 school year.

The St. Teresa of Calcutta Christian Service Award recipient has also been named. This award is presented to a student who has embodied the call to serve like Christ throughout their high school career. They do not just serve to meet requirements but do so out of love for their fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.

Our award recipient this year stands out for having a true heart for service and for her work in the humble spirit of Mother Teresa. She daily sees the needs of others and has a history of meaningful service to church, school, and community, even in the midst of Covid restrictions. This year she stands out for being one of the first students to spearhead a program in conjunction with her senior social justice project and the first student to bring visits and activities back to nursing home patients after long shutdowns. Her program, Friends Across the Ages, brought the presence of young people back to a local nursing home. This program not only encouraged her peers to return to nursing home ministry, but she also met the physical and spiritual needs of elderly residents through planning and coordinating visits that included hands on and interactive activities, music, the presence of Deacon Michael, and a planned Bible study for residents. Her work is outstanding and serves as an inspiration. We are proud to present the St. Teresa of Calcutta Christian Service Award to Makayla Bonanno.

St. Michael High School would like to Congratulate Mrs. Patty Fell on her retirement after 36 years of service as a Warrior! From teaching clothing & textiles, food & nutrition, child development, and adult responsibilities to coaching the flag and powerlifting teams for many years, there is not much on which Mrs. Fell has not left her mark.

One of the biggest staples that Mrs. Fell has brought to St. Michael is her annual fashion show with her clothing and textiles students. She will host her last show on Friday, April 28th, 2023 in the St. Michael Multipurpose Gym where her students will showcase their talents and skills that they learned in her class. Although we are incredibly sad to see her go, we are so excited for her to start enjoying her retirement. Congratulations Mrs. Fell and thank you for touching so many lives during your many years as a Warrior!
