A Banner Year for St Michael Wrestling

The 2017-18 wrestling season was one for the record books.  The St. Michael Wrestling Team reached heights they had not achieved since the 1997 season.  The team had two city champions, and six wrestlers place in the top 5 at the Baton Rouge City Championship. Senior Dane Harter placed first in the 182 lb. weight class and junior Lance Robinson placed first in the 145 lb. weight class and won the coveted Most Outstanding Wrestler Award for the second consecutive year.  The awards continued as the team traveled to Bossier City for the LHSAA Wrestling Championships.  Dane Harter finished as the State Champion in the 182 lb. weight class, Lance Robinson earned the State Runner-Up title in the 145 lb. weight class, George “Ehmett” Kim placed 4th in the 113 lb. weight class, and Nathan Zeringue finished 6th in the 132 lb. weight class.  The Warriors also had six members elected to the All-Metro wrestling team which included 1st Team members Dane Harter and Lance Robinson, and Honorable Mention members Ethan Allen, Demond Garner, George “Ehmett” Kim, and Nathan Zeringue.  In addition, Lukas Kim and Nathan Zeringue were selected to the Class 4A Academic All-State Team.

Reflecting on the season, Head Wrestling Coach Josh Galasso comments, “It was a banner year for our young team led by senior Dane Harter, who won the ‘Big Three’ tournaments in Louisiana:  the Louisiana Classic, Ken Cole, and the State Championship.  We are blessed to have a great group of young men, parents, and supporters who are dedicated to the long-term success of the wrestling program at St. Michael High School.  With a core group of starters returning next year, the future looks extremely bright.”
