JOY IS STRENGTH! is our theme for the upcoming school year. It expresses our deep faith in finding joy and strength in our relationship with our Savior, Jesus Christ. The theme also expresses our desire to seek and recognize joy in the everyday blessings of our life. We will be acknowledging our blessings throughout this coming year.
Here at St. Michael we are very excited about the start of a new school year, and the changes it will bring. The new building should be ready a week or two into August. People who pass by can see the facade that redefines the appearance of the school. The recently added landscaping adds more beauty and value to our campus. St. Michael students will reap the benefits that this new addition will provide for years to come. I hope you will find, as I do, that the construction challenges were worth the inconvenience.
We will begin this year with two student orientation days for an effective and efficient start to the year. On Tuesday, August 6, the freshmen and the seniors will report for orientation. The freshmen will have the opportunity to meet with each of their teachers and go through their schedule before the first full day of class. Parents of freshmen are invited that evening to a short gathering and Bible presentation service. Seniors will be given technology training on that day. On Wednesday, August 7, sophomores and juniors will come to school for their orientation and computer training. Be sure to check the schedule for your child’s grade level on the first page of the newsletter.
The success of our school and of our students depends upon the continued involvement of our parents. After all, parents are the primary educators of their children. I urge you to consider ways that you can be involved in helping the school continuously improve. Serve as a volunteer for our Golf Tournament or our annual Gala and Auction. Parent volunteers are needed in the Advancement Office, in our Home and School Association and in our Warrior Club. When you receive an email asking you to sign up with SignUpGenius, find a way to contribute. Donate to our building campaign if you are able. Get involved. Help make your child’s high school experience a great one.
Summer is a busy time for us. Many teachers have been attending workshops to fine tune their teaching skills. Coaches have been conducting summer camps and working on weight training with our athletes. The maintenance staff works all summer long to ensure that the physical plant is in top shape for the first day of school. We are grateful to all who work so diligently during the months of June and July to help prepare for the opening of school.
Have a restful and safe summer!
Ellen B. Lee, Principal
