Yesterday, Wilson Fields signed his college letter of intent to play basketball for Southern University.
Wilson, who plays point guard, found his love for basketball at three years old and has played for St. Michael since he was a freshmen. “My mom said I learned how to walk by dribbling a basketball when I was little,” said Wilson. “I have always enjoyed the competitive aspect. This sport has brought me joy since as long as I can remember.”
While attending Southern University, Wilson plans to major in Business and Music Production and says he looks forward to being able to play basketball at the next level and learning new skills through a collegiate sport. “St. Michael taught me how to manage my time and excel in both academics and basketball,” he mentions. “I am excited to play for such a well-rounded college and basketball program.”
St. Michael basketball coach, Drew Hart, says he hopes to see Wilson continue to grow mentally and physically in college by continuing to play with the Warrior spirit. “Wilson was by far the best defender we had on our team and drew tough assignments every game. Even though it required extreme commitment and dedication to fulfil this role he was always ready to accept the challenge. I saw him work hard on his offensive game over the last summer and with that he had an outstanding offensive season.”
During his senior year, Wilson averaged 13 points a game and was named to the Louisiana All-District team.
