Dane Harter signed his college letter of intent to be part of the wrestling team for Ithaca College in New York.
Dane, who has been a wrestler for the past six years, says he chose Ithaca because it is a great school with a top 3 NCAA wrestling program. “I will have the opportunity for a great education, great NCAA wrestling, and to train to make the Greco-Roman World Team at the New York Regional Training Center at Cornell University,” he said.
Dane has earned numerous awards in the short time he’s been a wrestler. He is the 2017 Louisiana State runner-up in the 170-pound weight class, the 2018 Louisiana State Champion in the 182-pound weight class, and was undefeated in all major tournaments including the prestigious Louisiana Classic, Ken Cole, and Trey Culotta Invitational. Dane was a recipient of The Advocate’s “Best Of” award, and was chosen to represent the United States and the USA Junior National Team at the 2018 Austria Junior Open in Gotzis, Austria. Dane says his next goal is to become an NCAA Champion in the 197-pound weight class.
St. Michael wrestling coach, Josh Galasso, says Dane’s work ethic has led to his many achievements. “Dane is an extremely talented wrestler with a will to succeed. I’ve been involved in the sport of wrestling as a coach and athlete for over twenty years, and Dane’s drive and determination to achieve his goals is greater than any I have ever been around,” he said. “I am confident that he can be an All-American and NCAA Champion before he graduates college. Ithaca got a great athlete and a great young man.”
Dane plans to major in physical education with a minor in music, and hopes to one day become a wrestling coach, following in the footsteps of his father and uncle.
