St. Michael Announces Alumni of the Year

Zachary Leger ‘03, has been named the 2019 St. Michael High School Alumni of the Year. Zach currently teaches multiple classes at SMHS, leads our new Engineering program, and is the Head Track and Field Coach. As an avid supporter of the St. Michael community, he continues to give his time and talents through many different school events and volunteer opportunities.

While a student at St. Michael, Zach was involved in beta club, football, powerlifting, and track and field. Zach later graduated from the College of Engineering at University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology. While at ULL, he was an offensive lineman on the football team earning a letterman and a spot on the All-Academic Team for the Sunbelt Conference. Upon graduating in 2008, he worked as a Sales Engineer before becoming a certified teacher in 2011. Once becoming certified, Zach has held a number of teaching and coaching jobs in Baton Rouge, eventually finding his way back to his alma mater.

Today, Zach takes on multiple responsibilities at St. Michael including teaching engineering, computer architecture, multimedia, and history. He is also the technology specialist, athletics media coordinator, and Head Coach of the track and field team. Zach is an active member of Most Blessed Sacrament Church and is married to Michelle Leger. He has a stepdaughter, Caroline, and they are expecting a boy, Easton Leger, in September of 2019.
