Planned Giving Opportunities:

  • Wills & Living Trusts: A simple, flexible, and versatile way to ensure we can continue our work for years to come is a gift in your will or living trust, known as a charitable bequest.  A charitable bequest is one or two sentences in your will or living trust that leave to St. Michael High School a specific item, an amount of money, a gift contingent upon certain events, or a percentage of your estate.
  • Real Estate: There are several different methods of giving real estate.
    1. Outright Gift – When you make a gift today of real estate you have owned longer than one year, you obtain a federal income tax charitable deduction equal to the property’s full fair market value.
    2. Retained Life Estate – You can transfer your personal residence or farm to the school but keep the right to occupy (or rent out) the home for the rest of your life. You continue to pay real estate taxes, maintenance fees and insurance on the property. Even though we would not actually take possession of the residence until after your lifetime, since your gift cannot be revoked, you receive an immediate federal income tax charitable deduction for a portion of your home’s value.
    3. Bargain Sale – When you make a bargain sale, you sell your property to our organization for less than what it’s worth. The difference between the actual value and the sale price is considered a gift to us.
  • Beneficiary DesignationJust name St. Michael High School as a beneficiary to receive assets such as retirement plans and life insurance policies after you are gone. You simply fill out a form that is entirely separate from your will which makes this approach an easy way to give.
  • Endowed Gifts: Endowment donations are invested through the Catholic Diocese of Baton Rouge at the Baton Rouge Area Foundation. The earned income (interest) will be used each year to fund a scholarship at St. Michael High School. The remaining funds are held at the BRAF to ensure indefinite support and stability for the school.  Endowment Gifts require a minimum $10,000 initial investment and a pledge of $40,000 over a 4 year period to be fully funded.
  • Memorial & Tribute Giving: A memorial gift is a “Living Legacy” in honor of your deceased loved one and continues to help fulfill the mission of prayer, knowledge, and service for our students. Memorial gifts are tax-deductible.

If you would like to send a memorial donation to our school, it may be mailed to the address:
