All freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors in good standing in high school are elegible to participate in this program. The LA Youth and Government program begins in Augsut and continues through March with a convention. Interested members plan and develop proposals and bills, debate in committees and chambers, and join other delegations in electing youth officers for the next year's conferences.
Members are to meet with their mentors to get help with planning and writing their bills. Monthly group meetings can be attended either at the morning session (6:50-7:10) or the afternoon session (2:40-3:00). These meetings are scheduled for Thursdays.
Unexcused absences from meetings or events may result n non-participation at the convention. The convention is held in Baton Rouge with two overnight stays (4 to a room) with a banquet meal, t-shirt, and dance. Transportation to LSU Law Center (Thursday PM) and to the State Capital (Friday is provided from the hotel to the sites via school buses.) One day of school is missed and this absence is considered excused. The dues and fees are non-refundable.div>
