Warrior Band News

The St. Michael High School Band continues to raise the bar in its performance expectations under the leadership of their band director, Dr. Kevin Andry. This year’s Marching Band thrilled audiences with its halftime show entitled “The Amazonian Rainforest,” as well as its performances in the Jones Creek Christmas Parade and St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The Warrior Band earned an Excellent rating at the Dutchtown Invitational Marching Competition, while the Percussion Ensemble and Auxiliary Units earned superior ratings. One of the highlights of the marching season was its Annual Band Night. Band students from several area Catholic feeder schools were invited to join the St. Michael Marching Band in the stands for one of our home football games. The students and parents were provided with a jambalaya dinner by the band parent’s organization and the young band members were able to perform several selections with the high school band.

The Jazz Ensemble continues to excite audiences everywhere! For the fifth consecutive year, they attended the Lee Fortier Jazz Invitational and the Loyola University Jazz Festival. This year, five students were recognized for their Outstanding Musicianship. They included Kattie Fetterman on piano, Eric Peters on trumpet, Dylan Parker on alto sax, Dane Monic on tenor sax, and Alex Holeman on bass. Alex also earned a spot in the Louisiana All State Jazz Ensemble. Dane Monic, Eric Peters, Hayden Serio, and Alex Holeman all earned sports in the All-Parish Jazz Band.

The Concert Band earned the Sweepstakes Trophy for its superior ratings across the board at District Band Festival and will travel to Lake Charles to participate in State Festival in April. Christopher Simoneaux, Dylan Parker, Dane Monic, Danielle Bunch, Taylor Stoma, LeighAnn Benbow, Marshall Leavoy, Michael Borne, Mary Bernard, and Nicholas Settoon all earned spots in the All-Parish Honor Band.

In addition to the superior rating at Dutchtown, the Percussion Ensemble earned four superior ratings at Solo and Ensemble Festival, which was hosted by St. Michael again this year. The St. Michael Drumline continues to grow in numbers and performance level.

The Warrior Band is scheduled to travel to Orlando in the spring (2010) to participate in a music festival.
